" WHO MOVED MY CHEESE ? " Book Review

WHO MOVED MY CHEESE ?

( by Dr. Spencer Johnson )

A few days before, I got this book from my brother. After reading it I wondered how the book conveyed the real essence of it through a simple story of four imaginary characters. Every person face the vicissitudes of life and those who don’t adapt themselves according to the circumstances blames destiny for all the wrongdoings. People rebuff to accept changes, adhere to old things and wait for the time to come back.

The book describes awe-inspiring ways to deal with the kaleidoscopic changes in the day to day life.   The four imaginary protagonist of this story are: the mice “Sniff” and “Scurry” and the little people: “Ham” and “Haw”. These all four name represents the four facets of human being. Some or the other time we act like among these four characters of the story.

The story is about the proclivity of the four and about the changes that takes place in the “maze” where these four look for the “cheese”.

Cheese is the metaphor for what we want to have in our life and maze is a metaphor for where we want to spend time for our cheese. The mice use the simple trial and error method of finding cheese, sniff would smell out the general direction of the cheese and scurry would race ahead. Whereas the two little man hem and haw used their past experiences and mainly relied on the complex brains. They all found their kind of cheese one day and the confidence of the hem and haw changed into arrogance but the mice were prepared for the inevitable changes.

One day they found no cheese at that channel. Since the mice were well aware of the fact that cheeses were on its last legs, they didn’t find difficult to adapt according to it and moved out in search for new cheese. In contrast the hem and haw were not prepared for the change and they started playing the blaming game. They ranted and raved and finally haw decided to move from there for searching new cheese but hew refute to go along with haw and wanted to wait for the old time to come back. Haw used his mind and pondered upon his mistakes which pave him the path toward the success and at the end finally he found place lousy with all kind of cheese and also found mice “sniffer” and “scurry” over there with a little belly around their waist. He realized that he could have learn to deal with change much earlier, if he noticed when the little changes begins.

So the moral of the story is that we should be thoroughly updated even for the small changes in our life, as a small change can flip our life 180 and also the movement toward the new direction helps you find new cheese. The quicker you forget your old time, the better u can deal with the new challenges.
